Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, the Magellan GPS company has been a leader in direct to consumer portable navigation devices since the industry started taking off a few years ago. In fact, the Magellan GPS RoadMate series of portable car navigation systems has even won some awards. Because of the huge success that Magellan GPS has had in recent years, they have opened up another headquarters, this time in Europe (Carqufou, France to be exact).

There are several different types of Magellan GPS devices that are available to consumers, depending on what their needs are. The Magellan GPS Triton is handheld and designed for outdoor navigation. It has a full color, large display screen that shows the graphics in good detail. Created for the outdoorsy types, the Magellan GPS Triton has a rugged exterior (great in the event that you drop things a lot) and is also waterproof. The Magellan GPS Triton comes in six different models.

The Magellan GPS Maestro is another kind of GPS system, this one designed for use in the vehicle. It provides turn by turn directions and can give you information on how to get to just about any destination in North America. It has a touch screen, which is really easy to use (even if you are old and try to avoid technology at all costs). To get directions, all you have to do is enter in the address of your destination. From there, you can either get a two or three dimensional map. Additionally, with its friendly voice, the Magellan GPS Maestro will talk you through all of the turns that you need to make.

If you are interested in combining the features of the Magellan GPS Triton and the Magellan GPS Maestro, the Magellan GPS Crossover is perfect. In fact, it is the first pocket sized, fully featured, crossover GPS to ever be made on earth. Because of its size, it is perfect to take with you camping, hiking, or wherever you may be headed on foot or bike outside. However, it also has the programming design that enables you to put it in your car and get the same kind of directions that you would expect in a vehicle navigation system. The Magellan GPS Crossover has the best of both worlds! Plus, because they have been on the market for a while, just about all Magellan GPS systems are more affordable than ever.
